Carlos Alcaraz losing his cool—Is this a sign of pressure getting to him?

The fans had all their sympathy for Carlos Alcaraz as he lost to Novak Djokovic in the gold medal match at the Paris Olympics. Despite ending up with tears at Roland Garros, the cheers in the stadium were evenly distributed for the Spaniard as well as the Serb. But why did that happen? The answer is Alcaraz’s appreciable aura and warm smile that have helped him gain an immense fanbase. But things took a completely unexpected turn at the Cincinnati Masters as fans saw a furious and frustrated side of Carlitos.

The tennis community had a clear sense of understanding as Carlos Alcaraz announced his decision to skip the ATP Masters 1000 event in Montreal. While he had enough time to relax and get things out of his mind post-defeat in Paris, countless expectations relied on his shoulders. In his opening-round match at the Cincinnati Masters against Gael Monfils, the Wimbledon champion was seen striving to earn each point. Although the showdown started as per the expectations, things started to take a turn as the Frenchman managed to secure the second set in his name.

Being pushed for the third one, Alcaraz seemed to be quite downtrodden and therefore lost his cool after giving up on a point. This resulted in an act full of rage on the courts of Cincinnati as the Spaniard was seen smashing his racket several times. The whole crowd was taken by surprise as the young champ unleashed his rarely-discovered side. This not only added a new dynamic to his behavioral presence but also made it clear that he was still not prepared to take on the hard courts.

Although Alcaraz tried to regain momentum to take control of the match, Monfils took advantage of the opportunity and therefore managed to win the third set, eventually eliminating the Spaniard from the event. This not only led to a terrible defeat of Alcaraz but also made him lose a part of the appreciable aura that he created with his fine conduct on the courts throughout the season. As Monfils shared positive thoughts about his rival before the match, it is evident that all the respect follows his tremendous lead in Cincinnati.

Carlos Alcaraz’s defeat leads to a big moment for Gael Monfils

“At the moment, I see him (the same) as Novak, as Rafa, as Roger, for me. He’s just a bit younger, but he’s already a legend,” is what Gael Monfils had to say about Carlos Alcaraz before the gripping showdown. Although there was a lot of heat involved in the match, the victory finally dropped in the Frenchman’s court, handing him a memorable moment and sheer confidence to move ahead in the tournament.

Have an interesting take?

With a bright smile on his face, an elated Monfils dedicated this tremendous win to her daughter. Finding his way to a cameraman, the ATP star wrote “Bonjour Skai” on the camera along with a smiley. Skai is the name of his daughter. Skai’s mother Elina Svitolina is also matched up against “The Tiger” Aryna Sabalenka, the result of which is yet to arrive.

Coming back to Monfils, with the spotlight right over his head, the 37-year-old will now be looking forward to facing Holger Rune in the R16. As he leaves the arena high on confidence and with pride in his eyes, it remains to be seen if he goes all the way in the ongoing event in Cincinnati.
