Denis Shapovalov shows no signs of stopping! Speaking on his incredible turnaround, he once said, “It’s been very, very difficult. There were a lot of times when I didn’t know if I was going to step back onto the tennis court, if I was even going to come back at all.” However, now after clinching the title at the Dallas Open, the Canadian has now outclassed two Americans in his previous two rounds at the Mexican Open. He’s now all set to face Marcos Giron in the QF! Can he make it three out of three against the Americans in Acapulco? Well, this is Giron’s third QF appearance in this season. So, considering their form this season we’re expecting lots of fireworks in this blockbuster clash!

Marcos Giron vs Denis Shapovalov: Preview

Marcos Giron has put up a solid stint this season. After showcasing an impressive performance at the Delray Beach Open, he has now yet again secured a spot in the last eight of a tournament in 2025. However, he didn’t have to put much effort in the previous round as his compatriot Tommy Paul gave him a walkover in that R16 clash. So, Giron’s only win in this tournament came against Australia’s Adam Walton in the R32. He defeated the Aussie in two sets.

On the other hand, Denis Shapovalov has carried on from where he left off in Dallas. He defeated the 20-year-old American, Alex Michelsen, in the R16 clash by a 6-4,6-3 margin. It’ll be now interesting to see if the Canadian can come up with a similar dominating performance against Giron in the next match.

Have an interesting take?

Prediction: Shapovalov to win in three sets

Although Marcos Giron currently has a clear-cut edge over Denis Shapovalov in the head-to-head record, we feel the Canadian will get the better of the American in this epic battle. Reason? Well, Shapovalov is currently high on confidence after his recent title triumph at the Delray Beach Open. His dominating performance in the previous two matches is a clear example of that! On the other hand, Giron hasn’t spent much time on the court in this tournament so far. So, a bit of rustiness can come into the picture when this American steps onto the court to take on Shapovalov.

Apart from that, we must not forget Shapovalov is a former world number 10. Although he’s currently ranked 32 in the world, Shapovalov comes up with a lot of potential and he can do some real damage on a good day! Currently, both Shapovalov and Giron (52) have a win-loss record of 8-3 in the 2025 season. We’re expecting Giron to come up with a strong challenge in this match, but at the same time, Shapovalov has all the weapons to win this mega battle in Acapulco.

Talking about their playing styles, Marcos Giron loves playing on the hard courts. His game is usually characterized by a strong baseline presence, consistency, and a reliable serve. Giron has a strong forehand and he is also quite good at retrieving balls and extending rallies. However, his biggest weakness is Giron doesn’t have the same level of firepower as some opponents!

On the other hand, Denis Shapovalov is known for his bold style of play and his high-risk shot-making on the court. His leaping backhand shot is considered one of his most remarkable shots. He also has a good single-handed backhand and we often see this left-handed tennis player playing serve-and-volley, particularly on quick surfaces to put his opponents a bit off-guarded. However, Shapovalov’s biggest weakness has been generating a significant amount of unforced errors in his matches. If the Canadian can keep things a bit tidy in this match, then it won’t be easy for Giron to seal the deal in this match. Keeping all these aspects in mind, we’re going for Shapo in this QF clash!
