During the South American swing, the Abierto Mexicano Telcel has always managed to pique the interest of the tennis community with some spectacular showdowns. But in 2023, the resort city of Acapulco was slammed by Hurricane Otis, which unleashed massive and dangerous flooding on Mexico’s southern Pacific coast. Despite this wreaking havoc, the ATP Tour 500 tournament, which takes place at the Fairmont Acapulco Princess, has managed to pull off an increase in the prize pool.

The Mexican Open features some of the biggest names on the men’s tour, competing on the outdoor hard courts. Now that another edition is back in Acapulco, the winner will get to take home a whopping prize money, which will be a 9.5% increase compared to the previous season.

What is the prize pool for this season’s Abierto Mexicano Telcel?

This season’s Mexican Open offers a total prize purse of $2,206,080, which is a 9.5% increase compared to the previous edition. On top of taking home a whopping $412,555, the winner will also get a 500-point ranking boost on the men’s tour, ahead of their participation in the Indian Wells Open.

Not just the champion, but the runners-up will also get to see 9.5% in their prize bag as they will get a consolation check for $221,975. The semifinalists will receive $118,300, while the quarterfinalists will get $60,440 after their exit from the ATP Tour 500 tournament. For round one and two fixtures, the participants will get $17,210 and $32,265 respectively.

Aside from the main draw matches, the qualifying rounds mirror those 9.5% increases, as the first and second-round losers will receive $4,945 and $8,820, respectively. It will be interesting to see who gets to get their hands on these lucrative prizes, as some of the top-ranked players are participating in the Abierto Mexicano Telcel.

Who are the participants of the Mexican Open?

While the qualifying rounds are yet to be concluded, some of the top-ranked players on the men’s tour have confirmed a place in the main draw. The Australian Open semifinalist Alexander Zverev is the number one seed in the tournament, and he will face Daniel Altmaier in the opening round.

Alex de Minaur, on the other hand, is the third-seeded participant, who will lock horns with the Japanese, Taro Daniel. Other top-ranked players, Taylor Fritz, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Casper Ruud, Holger Rune, and Frances Tiafoe, will also be marking their participation at the Abierto Mexicano Telcel.
