Nick Kyrgios stole the limelight during his second-round match against Daniil Medvedev with the Rod Laver Arena cheering for the local hero. But Daniil Medvedev maintained his composure to seal a four-set victory over the Australian.
The matchup was electrifying as the crowd got involved and rallied behind Kyrgios every time he pulled off his trademark shots. However, Nick couldn’t match up to Medvedev’s poise and ended up making a lot of errors to lose the match. Kyrgios was given a standing ovation by the crowd towards the end as the Russian prepared for his on-court interview.

Medvedev’s witty response to Jim Courier after victory against Nick Kyrgios at Australian Open
Medvedev was interviewed by Jim Courier, who asked how Daniil was able to control his emotions and play against the crowd. The Russian took a dig at the home crowd then and mentioned that it was difficult to maintain concentration when you were booed constantly between the first and second serves.

While Medvedev was saying the same, the crowd booed once again as the Russian couldn’t hear Jim Courier’s next question.
“If you respect somebody, AT LEAST respect Jim Courier,” said Medvedev.

Honestly, it was tough to differentiate whether the crowd were booing Medvedev or shouting ‘Siuu’ during the match. Earlier, even Andy Murray faced the same problem during his first-round match against Nikoloz Basilashvili. Later, it was revealed to him that they were actually doing the Cristiano Ronaldo celebration at the John Cain Arena.

Irrespective of the reason, Medvedev was clearly unhappy with the noise made by the crowd and Jim Courier, gracious as he is, decided to change the atmosphere and mentioned that Daniil was the highest seed left in the men’s draw. Daniil Medvedev maintained composure throughout the match to seal victory against Kyrgios
One of the first questions asked by Courier to Medvedev was, “How did you enjoy this match?”. Medvedev, as practical as ever, said, “I came here to win this match and I’m happy I managed to do it”.

Once the on-court interview concluded, Medvedev left the court in style as he wrote ‘Siuuu’ on the camera.
