Life hasn’t been easy for Alexander Zverev on and off the court. The German star has had to battle many injury setbacks to be among the top players consistently on the tour. While he has yet to taste success on the sport’s highest level, Zverev has won several other big titles. This came amid his long-standing battle with diabetes, a condition which he has been suffering from since childhood. Nonetheless, this hasn’t deterred Zverev from giving his best on the court.
When he was just 3 years old, it was found that Zverev was suffering from Type 1 diabetes. As a result, he had to take insulin regularly to manage his condition. Despite suffering from this disease though, Zverev pursued his dream of becoming a professional tennis player. Zverev can often be found taking insulin injections in between his matches as well.
However, a major controversy occurred at the 2023 French Open after Zverev was barred from taking insulin injections on the court as it looked ‘weird.’ This left the German star frustrated and he revealed, “They said it looks weird when I do this on court. But this is not a clever take because if I don’t do it, my life will be in danger. But they said it looks weird. I said ‘how does it look like? That I dope myself?’ This Discussion Makes No Sense.”
