Further, he caused a massive upset when he knocked out the eighth seed, Max Purcell in the second round. Earlier today, he defeated France’s Alexandre Muller in a thrilling three-set match to set up a clash with Shelton.

Interestingly, Shelton has had an intriguing rivalry against Daniel despite being in an emerging phase of his career and having turned pro just a couple of years back. The two have faced each other twice and on both occasions, Shelton has got the better of his Japanese opponent. They first played at Wimbledon last year against each other, with Shelton winning the contest in the final set. Subsequently, he had another win against Daniel on the Japanese star’s home turf in Tokyo.
