The Swiss Maestro had huge commitments since he was a teenager, as he assumed the responsibilities of a professional and a brand ambassador. So, the 20-time Grand Slam champion’s schedule was often tight, yet he invested in learning one of the most essential life skills.

In an interview with GQ, Federer and a board member of Mercedes-Benz, Britta Seeger, sat for a conversation exploring various professional and personal issues. Since the Swiss veteran represents an automobile giant, the first question he faced was about his driving. When asked if he was a good driver, Federer revealed that he is often the driver between him and Mirka Federer.

The athlete transitioning to businessman said, “I drive pretty okay too, I would say (laughs). In my marriage, I am often the driver.” The Olympic Gold winner reflected on his driving in the initial stages of his career and how it has changed in the last few years. Federer said, “I am often the driver and have covered quite a few kilometers in the last few years. I always drove myself to my tournaments, so that added up to a lot of kilometers.”

Federer and Mercedes-Benz first partnered in 2008. They have renewed their contract multiple times and still remain close. Mercedes is one of the first partnerships Federer signed after hiring his long-time agent and businessman Tony Godsick. The Swiss Maestro shares what connects him to the German automobile giant.

He also recalled how many people asked about his light foot and his almost-flying capability. Acknowledging his elegance, the first billionaire in tennis disclosed that elegance brought them together.

The God of Tennis also unveiled how he was associated with Mercedes-Benz even before he signed the official deal. He playfully remarked that he associated a good tennis match with Mercedes-Benz throughout his career, given their finesse in respective professions.
