“Not one size fits all” might seem like a phrase that is well-used in the fashion and apparel industry. But imagine how it would sound if included in the verdict of an ex-tennis pro? If “weird” is the word that popped into your mind, it wouldn’t be the right answer when it comes to the player-turned-podcaster Andy Roddick. While Aryna Sabalenka finally walked out of the US Open arena with her third grand slam title, Roddick had a detailed analysis ready on her overall presence on the courts.

In the latest episode of the “Served” podcast, Andy Roddick talked about his admiration for Aryna Sabalenka after her US Open victory over Jessica Pegula. The American former player highlighted Sabalenka’s fun and smiley nature and also compared it to Roger Federer’s calm demeanor on the court. “Hers (Sabalenka’s pre-game process) just looks really fun, and she dives in afterwards, and she like, has a smile, and it’s like she’s up for a joke but also is committed to improvement,” Roddick said, highlighting the fact that the new US Open champion has a great balance between having fun and being focused.

However, the 42-year-old still wasn’t done with this. Besides Federer, he also tried to draw a line of comparison among other tennis legends. He mentioned Serena Williams as protective of her routines, along with adding a funny touch to his statement. “Serena’s like you’re not taking my lunch,” he said.

Roddick also described Novak Djokovic as intense and fully concentrated before his matches, saying, “Novak is like he’s just intense.” Rafael Nadal, who is generally seen relying on hard training sessions before matches, also gathered Roddick’s as he pictured him doing “kangaroo jumps and somersaults.”

Roddick’s key point was that there isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach to success. Every great player follows their own process. His statement justified Sabalenka’s comment on her own team’s coordination and support. “The craziest team on tour,” she said, highlighting the fun moments that she enjoys with the rest of them. When her final match against Jessica Pegula commenced, a similar prospect of her fun nature was also seen there.
