The stage is all set for the closing stages of the most prestigious tournament in the game of tennis. In the ladies’ singles, the final was between Marketa Vondrousova and the sixth-seeded Ons Jabeur which had the latter as the favorite. Although the Tunisian player lost against all odds. Tennis fans would be eager to see a similar miracle in the gentlemen’s singles final between the sensational Spanish prodigy Carlos Alcaraz and the Serbian legend Novak Djokovic. This has been one of the most interesting Wimbledon Championships with all the rain delays, swarming of the flies, incredible matches and upsets, and so on.

While there are only two days of tennis to go at the iconic grand slam, Wimbledon has made ample use of social media, especially Twitter. They have posted a video on their official Twitter handle that has got every tennis fan going. The video is about a certain Novak Djokovic narrating what a Wimbledon final means for the players.

The Wimbledon Championships made creative use of social media today and cashed in on Twitter’s enormous popularity. The Championships roped in Novak Djokovic using his immense popularity and reach to narrate an extraordinarily worded, powerful video. The video read with the caption, ‘A shot at greatness awaits. Experience one of sport’s most iconic walks, narrated by a man who knows it better than most’? @DjokerNole

Djokovic’s words in the video were, “Every practice, every workout, every sacrifice it was all for this. The chance to make history. The chance to make magic happen. The chance to…Dare I say it? A Wimbledon final. Keep your head. Trust yourself. Heart and nerve. A shot at greatness. Mere moments away. So one question. Are you ready?”

The fans are ready, the players are ready. Everyone in the tennis universe would be hoping that these two matches would be thrillers rather than lackluster matches. Even though the ladies’ singles final was a straight-sets affair, fans would hope differently for the gentlemen’s final.

Many records are at stake

Many records are to be smashed in these two matches. Vondrousova has already scripted hers by winning home her first Grand Slam, leaving Ons Jabeur in the realms of loss for a second year running. Vondrousova also became the first unseeded woman to win a Wimbledon title which is a huge feat in itself.

The scenario for the gentlemen’s singles final is a little different, though. World no.1 Carlos Alcaraz will bag his second Grand Slam trophy if he wins at the young age of just 20 after bagging the US Open crown last year. And Novak Djokovic will equal Roger Federer’s monumental feat of 8 Wimbledon titles if he wins.

So all of these matches are matches of such high importance. And only posterity can tell us how things would pan out and who would come out on top. As Novak Djokovic rightly said, “He(Alcaraz) is hungry, I’m hungry too. So let’s have a feast together. The fans would be hoping that the rain doesn’t play spoilsport.

So just as Novak Djokovic said in the video, this is it. Every sacrifice is for this moment, where all the practice will pay off. Trust yourself. This is reminiscent of Rudyard Kipling’s ‘If’ poem, where he says,

“If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you”.
