Frances Tiafoe and Travis Scott: Is this the coolest sports and music friendship ever?

“That’s definitely my guy”. Frances Tiafoe‘s candid admission on Travis Scott will give you a gist of what I’m trying to convey here but hold that thought. Has the American tennis star befriended the ‘Sicko Mode’ hitmaker, the hip-hop giant whose mere presence spirals the crowd out of control? Well, don’t fret. The duo shares an amusing history, details you might not know yet. Here’s everything to know about the unusual match-up.

Both celebrities draw their initial connection over a sneaker fare link-up. The hip-hop artist, known for his popular ‘Cactus Jack’ collaboration with Nike, has elicited a head-turning response from the sneaker world. However, what followed was Tiafoe’s take on the ‘ASTROWORLD’ superstar’s venture with the sporting label.

Amid Scott’s controversy with John McEnroe, wherein the duo engaged in a heated conversation over their ‘Nike Mac Attack’ collab last year, the World No. 20 hilariously chimed in to shush the latter by saying “Damn Trav chill” and later, compel him to send over his latest kicks to him. This is where the duo’s unknown relationship kicked off. Fast forward to 2024 and Scott-Tiafoe appeared at the NBA All-Star game.

After successfully commencing his Wimbledon campaign, the World No. 20 amusingly stated how he wanted to cop the 33-year-old artist’s latest sneakers while expressing disappointment witnessing Carlos Alcaraz rocking the pairs before him. “Travis is my guy. Hung out there at All-Star. Hit me up. I ain’t got no kicks, man. What’s up? I see him. You can’t be rocking those before I am. That’s just unacceptable.” However, that wasn’t the end of it.

After advancing to the grass court Major’s third-round, the World No. 20 teased the ten-time Grammy nominee. Having waited on his Cactus Jack sneakers for far too long, the 26-year-old highlighted that he is yet to be furnished with a pair despite Scott’s managers’ repeated assurances ahead of the latter’s ‘Eutopia’ Tour in London. He said,  “His manager keeps saying, ‘Yeah, it’s coming, yeah, it’s coming, Yeah, no, this is all good fun. It’s just funny. Yeah, I’m excited. That’s definitely my guy. It’s cool that he’s out here.”
