Can Medvedev's family support help him break his losing streak and win the ATP Finals?

Daniil Medvedev is having a tough time at the moment! He has now lost three matches in a row since the Shanghai Masters. The former world number one is still in search of his first title of the 2024 season. If he fails to win the ATP Finals in Turin, then this would be the first time since 2017 that he’d end the season title-less. The Russian star is facing immense pressure. He needs the support of his fans and family. While he has his fans by his side, has his family traveled to Turin to support him at the year-end tournament?

At the start of this season, when Daniil Medvedev lost the final of the AO against Jannik Sinner, we saw how much he missed his family that time. During his speech in Melbourne, Medvedev said, “I don’t know if they turned off the TV, but Dasha, Alisa, if you’re watching, it felt like you were there with me. Unfortunately, I couldn’t make it today. But I’m gonna try to make it work next time for you.” Time and again, Daniil Medvedev has come closer to clinching a title this year, but he has failed to deliver in the crucial matches. However, his wife Daria and their daughter have been his constant support through all this thick and thin.

Daniil Medvedev welcomed his first child, daughter Alisa, with his wife Daria in October 2022. Since then, there have been multiple such instances where his wife and daughter were spotted showing support for him from the stands. Are they in Turin right now, though? Well, on 10th November, Medvedev’s wife Daria shared a video clip featuring her two-year-old daughter’s reaction to seeing a poster of her father on the walls of the ATP Finals stadium.

Alisa was even heard calling out to her “papa” and excitedly pointing him out to her mother. Medvedev’s wife Daira could be heard laughing in the background after seeing Alisa’s reaction. Alisa was also seen pushing a cart down to what appeared to be the lobby and then stopping midway after recognizing her father’s poster on the wall.

Daniil Medvedev had previously shared that Alisa had inherited his “character” when it came to her angry outbursts and everything else. For example, during a previous interview, Medvedev revealed, “If something doesn’t go her way, then she throws a toy in anger or bites it. My wife is looking at me saying, ‘Okay, where does it come from?’ And that’s pretty funny because you start asking yourself if it’s just pure genetics and I don’t have an answer to this question.

Then, even when it came to needing assistance, he revealed that she wouldn’t accept help from anyone until she decided it was necessary. Is there a possibility of seeing Alisa taking up the racquet sport like her father, though?

Daniil Medvedev shared his thoughts on introducing his daughter to tennis

In May 2024, during an interview on the Tennis Channel, Daniil Medvedev spoke about the challenging consequences of spending time away from his beloved daughter. While having a conversation with Prakash Amritraj, he spoke about what actually he has learned from his little kid throughout these two years. “Has taught me? Not yet, not yet. She doesn’t speak too many words. Just by showing and stuff, tough to teach. Patience maybe, I don’t know, sometimes.” Further, Medvedev highlighted the big role of his wife, Daria, in the family.

Let’s be honest, when you’re a tennis player, you can talk as much as you want about kids, you don’t see them that often. You travel around the world, so it’s more my wife that tries to teach her things and maybe our daughter teaches her patience.” He even joked about how their kid acts differently when he’s in front of her. No matter how many hours or days he gets to spend with his daughter, but he always ensures it’s “fun time.” Will we ever see his daughter pursuing tennis?

I don’t know. I want her to be happy to do whatever she feels like she wants to do. And then there is a thin line because if I would have to choose myself at 10 years old, I’m not sure I would go to tennis,” said Medvedev in that same interview. He further added, “So, it’s a thin line where you as a parent, you need to see what she likes doing and what she can do well because it’s still important and also you don’t want to force her.” Daniil Medvedev also cracked a joke on this saying, if his daughter decides to play tennis in the future, the “stress” of watching her compete would possibly keep himself far away from attending her matches.

However, in Turin, he would now be happy to see these adorable moments featuring his little daughter. This would now perhaps lift up his spirits a bit, especially after facing that disappointing result against Taylor Fritz in his opening Group Stage match. Next up for him is Australia’s Alex De Minaur. Can he beat ‘The Demon’ in the second group stage match on Tuesday?
