Last year, Daniil Medvedev defeated the 22-year-old Italian at the Miami Open, with a scoreline of 7-5,6-3. Consequently, after the match, Medvedev went on to convey his genuine regards to Sinner. He knew that Sinner was struggling with some pain in the match, and even after winning, Medvedev did not forget about this.

After the Miami Open final, during the on-court conversation, the Russian tennis player talked about how he saw his opponent struggling a bit and even apologized for his pain, which might have caused him during the match. He said, “I’m sorry I saw that you were hurting or something.”

Not only that, he further praised him regarding his semi-final clash, in which he defeated Carlos Alcaraz to move past and reach the finals. Whether it be victory or loss, both of them have always carried humorous banter and conversations on and off the court. But that was not the only Miami-open incident that showcased their bond.

When Sinner poked fun at Medvedev 

While both of them played in the Miami Open finals, it was the Russian tennis player who emerged victorious. After the defeat, during the runner-up speech, Sinner made a humorous comment on his opponent’s clay court record. Although he congratulated the 27-year-old on his win and praised his tennis form, at the same time, his words made Medvedev laugh out loud.

Sinner said, “First of all, Congrats Daniil, not only for this tournament but also the last five, minimum final, and playing incredible tennis. Congrats to you and obviously your team for an incredible job. Now clay season starts, let’s see how you do there, but I wish you all the best.”

However, this is not the only final that they have played, wherein they have created fun memories. Even after the 2023 China Open final, both of them put on a show during the award ceremony of the tournament. While the Russian tennis player faced defeat in the tournament final, the result was not the major highlight.

After the presentation ceremony, the former third-ranked tennis player approached his opponent and placed a toy figure inside the trophy that the 22-year-old tennis player won.
