Is Andy Roddick right to defend Djokovic, or is the fan's bias claim against Sinner justified?

The doping controversy surrounding Jannik Sinner is refusing to die down. For those unknown, the Italian star tested positive on a couple of occasions for a banned substance named Clostebol. However, he escaped punishment after providing a fair explanation about how he came in contact with it. Sinner was not held responsible for the contamination of his samples. While there have been varied opinions in Sinner’s case, the American legend Andy Roddick, backed the Italian star amid this saga. This didn’t go down well with a Novak Djokovic fan, and a heated argument on social media ensued between them.

During the ‘Served’ podcast, Roddick called Sinner a ‘gentleman on the court’ and lauded how Jannik Sinner handled his doping case. However, an X user named ‘Pavvy G’, who is perceived as a Djokovic fan, slammed Roddick for his bias on the doping case, even calling him a ‘coward.’ Roddick blocked that X account, after giving a fitting reply in response.

“You don’t need access to harass me on this platform to post the clip to your followers. Just prove yourself right. Post the clip to back up what you said…. I don’t want you to send them to me. I also can’t stand for you lying and harassing. Just be truthful about what I say on my pod, and maybe even provide clips for what you say. Easy enough to prove yourself right if you’re telling the truth on this,” Roddick wrote on X.

The feud between Roddick and Pavvy G dates back to the time when Djokovic was injured and unsure of playing at the Wimbledon Championships. When Roddick criticized the Serb’s decision to play suspense over his Wimbledon participation, it didn’t go down well with Pavvy G, who slammed Roddick for his comments. Additionally, Pavvy G also accused Roddick of spreading false narratives and propaganda. And in the most recent instance, when Roddick defended Sinner despite his failed dope tests, Pavvy G had a go at the American legend again.

After Jannik Sinner tested positive, he appealed against his positive tests, saying that he came in contact with the substance through the spray applied by his physio. With the ITIA accepting his justification, Sinner was only penalized with stripping off his points and prize money that he won at Indian Wells, where he tested positive. However, the World No. 1 now doesn’t want to take any chances going ahead and as a result, he has made a major change in his backroom staff.

Hours ago, Sinner revealed that he broke his partnership with his fitness coach Umberto Ferrara, and physiotherapist Giacomo Naldi. The two of them were unintentionally responsible for Sinner testing positive for Clostebol and that probably resulted in them losing their jobs. The Italian star was fortunate to avoid any harsh penalty for his failed dope tests and admitted that he doesn’t want to take any chances going forward,

Jannik Sinner mentioned, “Now, because of these mistakes, I’m not feeling that confident to continue with them. The only thing I just need right now, just some clean air. You know, I was struggling a lot in the last months. Now I was waiting for the result, and now I just need some clean air.”

It is rumored that Marco Panichi, who previously worked with Djokovic, will be joining Sinner’s team as his trainer. If this is true, it could be a major boost to Sinner’s hopes of winning the US Open, which starts next week.
