Roddick has earlier revealed that Jimmy Connors is often misunderstood and has always been a friend to him. Now when asked to reflect on whether he was once dumped in his career, Roddick said, I did by Jimmy. Uhm yeah but yeah it was great, I mean we had an unbelievable run, it was no. We’re friends to this day.

He added, “It was great but it was kind of like you know I was my life, uh existed in New York on the East Coast at that time. And he was on the West Coast and it was a little more difficult. But Jimmy was the man I mean literally went when it kind of passed to where I couldn’t really hit a forehand anymore with shoulder issues. He actually taught me how to move, how to actually hit a backhand for the first time in my life, and how to return off that side.”

Establishing this as one of his fondest memories, Roddick continued, “And, so we were able to kind of retrofit a game that was largely imperfect. I learned how to come forward and it was just you know some of the fondest memories I’ve had inside of that 18 months.”
