Andy Roddick has suffered devastating losses at Wimbledon. The American former tennis player lost thrice to Roger Federer in a tournament that he had always “dreamed of winning.” More than a decade after retirement, Roddick can laugh about his losses as he takes part in a campaign that hilariously revisits his Wimbledon dream for glory.

In a commercial with Betway, Roddick showed his fire to win Wimbledon, even after he had left playing behind. The clip begins with a message on the screen, “Haunted by the championship that eluded him… Time and time again. Until now.” He then announced his return to professional tennis 12 years after he retired from the sport.

Thanks for being here. I am ecstatic to announce my return to competitive tennis for far too long. There has been a tournament that has eluded me. But now with Betway I have the advantage to make the story a happy one. And I promise I will win Wimbledon“- Roddick further said in the video.

He went on to create a makeshift grass court in Wimbledon, North Dakota, and shared flyers for the tournament on the street. A montage of Roddick winning matches with sheer ease was shown, making his Wimbledon dream come true. A true Andy Roddick would remember how the American former ATP star lost three Wimbledon finals in 2004, 2005, and 2009. In fact, he lost all of the grass slam final to the Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer. His recent Betway advertisement echoed his old and famous losses against the former Swiss maestro taking fans on a nostalgic tour of the old Federer-Roddick rivalry.

While this Betway campaign brought back old tennis memories, it also showed Roddick’s ability to laugh about the losses that devastated him during his career. Despite losing the British Grand Slam major to the Swiss former maestro, Roddick complimented the latter’s playstyle, showing a great sportsman mentality on the court.

Andy Roddick speaks how Roger Federer played “head and  shoulders above” him to win the 2005 Wimbledon

Roger Federer defeated Andy Roddick in the Wimbledon 2004 finals by 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (3), and 6-4. Next year, the Swiss legend would repeat the feat as he defeated Roddick at the same stage by 6-2, 7-6(2), 6-4. Despite losing to Federer twice, Roddick explained how well the Swiss legend played for this victory.

He played head and shoulders above what he played last year. I mean, if you just look at the stats, 49 winners and 12 errors. I was bringing heat, too. I was going at him, trying different things. You just have to sit back and say “too good” sometimes. Hope he gets bored or something. I don’t know,” said Roddick about the Wimbledon 2005 finals against Federer. Roddick also revealed how he congratulated Federer post-victory in 2005 and said, “I’d love to hate you, but you’re really nice.

Nevertheless, Andy Roddick’s Betway advertisement brought back old Wimbledon memories for this former ATP star. While Roddick nailed his role as a professional tennis player for a decade, he also won hearts with his acting skills for the campaign.
