Andy Murray has had a mixed start to the 2022 season. After an encouraging return in the 2021 season, the 34-year-old started this year at the Melbourne Summer Set tournament. However, he lost in the opening round to Facundo Bagnis of Argentina. After that, he had a memorable week in Sydney, where he finished as the runner-up at the Sydney Tennis Classic. He eventually went down to Aslan Karatsev of Russia in the summit clash.
Having had an ideal warm-up for the Australian Open, the former World No. 1 continued his good form as he defeated Nikoloz Basilashvili in the opening round of the Grand Slam Down Under. However, Murray could not sustain the momentum as he lost to the Japanese Taro Daniel in the second round, eventually bowing out of the Australian Open 2022. Despite this disappointment, the Scot has something to cheer about as he is about to record his highest ranking since 2018.
