The 2022 ATP season is nearing the end of its second month and we already had some exciting events going on across the globe. Now to add more to it, Miami Open has announced the initial entry list as it awarded wild cards to former world no.1 Andy Murray and Nick Kyrgios.

Other than Grand Slam events, Masters 1000 tournaments are also grand events in tennis. The mega Gala covers most of the talent available from both the men’s and women’s roosters. The declared list contains 73 out of 75 top-ranked players from both ATP and WTA tours.

After its cancellation due to the pandemic and limited occupancy in 2021, the organizers have decided to allow full capacity crowds. The 11-day long Miami open is scheduled from 23rd March to 3rd April.

Andy Murray and Nick Kyrgios get a nod for the Miami Open

3-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray gets a wild card entry for the tournament. The 34-year-old player was struggling with injuries since 2017. It all started with an elbow injury as he had to endure various physical adversities before making a comeback in 2018.

Having to struggle even further with his hip, the Brit showed resilience and returned to the top 100 during this season. Currently ranked 89th in singles, Murray will be hopeful to get some wins under his belt.

Similarly, Australian sensation Nick Kyrgios also got a wild card to play the Miami Masters. He took long break after the ‘happy slam’ and now Miami seems to be the confirmed return for this energetic youngster. Winning the doubles title down-under would surely have boosted his confidence as he likes to translate it into his singles matches.

Rafael Nadal, Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas are some of the big guns who got direct entry into the main draw. Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, who won the Rio Open last week and broke into top-20, also got his name selected for the main draw.

Last year’s finalist Jannik Sinner will look to win it all this time and move further up in the ranking. Defending Miami Open champion Hubert Hurkacz will also be available this season.
