Mike Agassi, father of Andre Agassi, passed away on 24th September 2021. The man who coached the champion died at the age of 90 at Nathan Adelson Hospital in Las Vegas.

Father of Andre Agassi dies at 90

Andre Agassi confirmed the unfortunate news via text on 28th September. Mike Agassi was 90 years old. His son said the rituals for the memorial will be kept private and preferred not to comment further.

Mike Agassi was born in Iran as Emmanuel Agassi. He proudly represented his country in boxing at the 1948 Olympics games in London as well as the 1952 games in Helsinki. In 1963, he got settled in Las Vegas, America, and started working in Tropicana hotel & casino.

Mike recognized the potential of his son has at a very young age. He developed an intriguing tennis machine called “The Dragon” which fed balls at Andre during training. With the help of the machine, the former World No. 1 used to hit 5000 balls a day.

Agassi had an extraordinary professional career. He has bagged 8 Grand Slam titles and also has been a runner-up in 7 Grand Slam titles. He achieved the highest ranking of World No. 1. Agassi and was the second of five tennis players to claim a Career Grand Slam in Men’s tennis. Agassi was also the first of two men to accomplish the Career Golden Slam in the Open era.

Mike Agassi played a huge role in Andre Agassi’s successful career. He coached Andre for 13-long years, from 1970 to 1983. Mike pushed Andre to his limits and as a result, one of the greatest tennis players was produced.
