Nick Kyrgios wants fans to expect the unexpected! The 29-year-old Australian tennis star was last seen in action at the 2023 Stuttgart Open. Injuries have been one of his biggest opponents in his career as he sustained a knee injury at the end of 2022, then made a comeback in Stuttgart, but again after that, he suffered a wrist injury. As a result of this long absence from the tour, the former world number 13 is currently unranked on the ATP Tour. However, amid all these concerns, Nick Kyrgios recently gave a vital update on his Instagram account. Finally, some good news for the Kyrgios fans?
Kyrgios underwent a ‘secret‘ surgery on his left wrist at the Calvary Adelaide Hospital after coming to terms with the likelihood that he may be forced to give up on his dream surrounding the racquet sport. He admitted dealing with this injury has been the “hardest time” time of his career. The pain was so severe that he struggled to even open a car door. However, his tireless work behind the scenes and the support of his doctors have now ensured that Nick Kyrgios may well look forward to making his mark in the tennis world yet again.
He will attend the Wimbledon Championships this year, but only as a commentator for the BBC. But when will he swap those mics with his racquets? Nick Kyrgios recently gave an update on his Instagram Stories, he wrote, “Will be trying to hit with some players the next 2 weeks to test my wrist out and get a better indication of where I’m at.” He further added, “Stay Tuned-Commentating & Plenty of Stuff happening.”

The Aussie tennis star has even hinted that he’d like to play a few rounds with Novak Djokovic if he meets him at the All-England Club. It’s just because he feels, “That’s where my level was when I left. It’d be good to get back into it. Just to be in that environment, not necessarily participating in the tournament, but getting around it again and feeling like normal, it would be great.” But how difficult was it for him to even think of anything like this a few months ago?

According to the Australian surgeon, Dr. Michael Sandow, Nick Kyrgios was almost on the verge of never playing tennis again. The extent of the wrist injury was so serious that the doctor revealed, “When I first talked to Nick, he was very depressed and looking at never playing tennis again. He was quite disabled when I first saw him.” This led them to decide to go through the ANAFAB (ANAtomical Front And Back reconstruction).
However, now he’s in a lot better position than he was a few months ago. All he wants now is to make a strong comeback and prove his doubters wrong! Nick Kyrgios believes making a comeback has now become an “absolute necessity“. He added, “This has been a really challenging time – the hardest of my career. People aren’t expecting me to come back, especially after an injury like this. So, I would love to do that and play again.” Do you think the Australian can bring back his glorious days yet again?
