Novak Djokovic lost the Australian Open semifinal to Jannik Sinner after a long battle. The Italian youngster would go on to win the tournament and lift his first grand slam trophy. After Novak’s loss, the tennis world had an uproar, and many started saying that his career would be on a decline. However, Jimmy Connors, an American tennis legend, said that it was far from over.
A similar situation took place after Djokovic lost the Wimbledon final to Carlos Alcaraz. However, an old rival of the Djoker came out to say that the guard had not changed, like Connors.

After Djokovic was eliminated from the tournament, the tennis world was split into two. One side said that Djokovic was suffering from confounding issues, which is why he lost. The other side believed he lost because his career was coming to an end. There are a few who believe that Sinner just bested him that day and that Djokovic will return with full force. On his podcast, Advantage Connors, the American legend explained why he believes in Novak’s comeback.
“I’m not expecting Djokovic to walk away. I think that he’s too dedicated. What he does off the court and because everything’s geared towards tennis, for him, because I think he realizes that he’s eventually not going to be able to do it anymore. So he’s gonna give everything he can, while he can to be the best that he can be.”
“And so everybody says, ‘oh he didn’t make this. He made the semis. But he didn’t get past the semis. And he’s lost the Grand Slam. And well that’s it for him.’ Don’t be saying that. I’m not saying that. I’m saying it was great that the young, the young kid wanted, but I’m not counting him out yet.”

When the tennis world believed the same thing after the 2023 Wimbledon final, Djokovic’s old opponent stepped up to say it was not over.
Andy Murray believed in the return of the Djoker
Djokovic turned the opinion of the world around when he won the US Open. The Djoker had come out of losing to Alcaraz in Wimbledon, and the rest of the world said he was finished. However, Murray did not believe it for one moment. “Alcaraz is brilliant, but to do what Novak is doing on a consistent basis is different. It’s not the same as doing it for 15-20 weeks a year like Novak is doing, every time he steps on the court. I do think that Alcaraz will soon get to that level but I don’t think this is going to be the last time that Novak wins a Grand Slam.”
