Novak Djokovic‘s anti-vaccination stance has always been a hot debate topic for the tennis community. Even the renowned tennis journalist Ben Rothenberg has been quite vocal about it, while he has also issued a bold take on the Serbian tennis player’s decision not to take a jab.

On his online platform, Rothenberg spoke candidly about how the Serb’s decision to be firmly against vaccines has somehow made him “a huge icon” of the anti-vax movement. However, the tennis bigwig’s unfiltered take didn’t sit well with Djokovic’s fans, as he recently opened up about receiving hatred from them.

Ben Rothenberg was in hot water after labeling the 24-time singles Grand Slam champion an “anti-vax posterboy” in one of his previous tweets. Notably, in an exclusive interview with EssentiallySports, Ben Rothenberg was asked about how he has always remained quite vocal about his vaccination stance on Twitter.

While agreeing on receiving a lot of hatred from Novak Djokovic’s fanbase, Rothenberg said, “Not so much what was on my mind. I probably did just start tweeting less in general because almost anything I would say about him, positive or negative, would get sort of blown out of proportion.”

Even if he talks ‘positive’ about the ‘Djoker,’ the tennis bigwig asserts that his fans will still deem it a ‘huge exaggerated reaction.’ He stated, “I say positive things about him, which is 90 something percent of what I say about him is positive or certainly at worst neutral; people would like, ‘Oh wow, you finally, you know, this huge exaggerated reaction’ because of this honestly fairly limited, you know, people tell me we’ve been critical by Djokovic.”

During the honest conversation, Rothenberg went on to reveal that Djokovic’s anti-vaccination stance was ‘not helpful’ during the global pandemic. He said, “His vaccine and science, scientific views, if you want to say that too, and his public stances on those and how I thought those were not helpful during the global pandemic. And I still think that but it’s also kind of in the past now, the issue was that the pandemic kept going and that it kept being a lingering issue for Djokovic.”
