However, along with winning a fierce match, Isner made a record that will linger around for some time. The right-handed tennis ace broke one of the milestones he achieved earlier.
John Isner, the man with a perfect serve
In a quest for a ticket to the second round of the grass-based Grand Slam, Isner forged a magnificent record. While playing in court 18 of Wimbledon, he out-muscled the 27-year-old French tennis professional Enzo Couacaud. He also perfectly executed an array of 54 aces in the five-set long match. Thus becoming the only player since 2020 to hit 50 plus aces in a Grand Slam match.

The previous record, set in the US Open, was also the American’s. Although he was thrown out in the first round of the US Open by fellow American player Steve Johnson, he dished out 52 aces against him. The match, similar to this match, lasted for five sets in which Isner kept himself alive by winning the first and the third set.

In addition, the record of maximum aces in a single match is also under Isner’s name. He, in the 2010 Wimbledon Championship, played a 11 hours and five minutes long match to defeat Nicolas Mahut with a record 113 aces. Mahut himself generated 103 aces in the three-day long match.
Who is Isner’s next opponent?
The 37-year-old will meet the 3 times Grand Slam champion Andy Murray in the second round of the event. The Brit who made a comeback after two hip surgeries has struggled throughout this season. However, he seems to have a grip on grass as he performed well in the warm up tournaments as well.
