With the likes of Andre Agassi nearing the end of their illustrious careers, responsibility fell onto the shoulders of young tennis stars like Andy Roddick to maintain the domination. At the US Open that year, the top seed, Agassi, bowed out in the semifinals. It was up to Roddick to carry American hopes. He didn’t disappoint, as the big-serving American defeated Juan Carlos Ferrero to win his maiden Grand Slam title. Now, on the 20th anniversary of his historic win, Roddick’s ex-girlfriend, Mandy Moore, talked about his superlative efforts.

Moore and Roddick began dating in 2003 after meeting on the set of a rom-com. However, one year after the American legend’s historic US Open triumph, the couple called it quits. Here’s what Moore had to say about her ex.

Recently, Roddick was featured in an interview with GQ, where he talked about being the last American man to win a Grand Slam singles title. Moore gushed over his interview and was all praise for Roddick via her Instagram handle.

Opening up about Roddick’s achievement and its influence on her, she said, “Andy was a really formative part of my young adult life and although we’re not in touch, I was so moved by this article reflecting on the 20th anniversary of his US Open win and the kind of life he’s (led) since.”

Further, she added, “I’m so happy for him and his family. Congrats on this milestone, Andy!” Roddick called an end to his illustrious career in 2012. Now, another American tennis star is retiring after the US Open to which Roddick reacted.

Roddick congratulates John Isner on a great career

Recently, Isner announced that the US Open this year will be the final tournament of his illustrious career. Reacting to this, Roddick said, “Love ya big guy. Give ’em hell next week. Don’t forget to take all of the looks around. Congrats on a great run. See you on the other side.”
