Johann Sinner spent a crucial part of his life working in the cozy town of Sexten, Italy. Surrounded by the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site, there’s a charming ski lodge called the Talschlusshütte Hut, standing proudly at 1,548 meters above sea level. That’s where Johann worked as a chef.

Jannik, who is now at a monumental phase in his professional career, found himself stuck between pursuing skiing or tennis. And his parents stuck by his choice when he left home at 14 to train with Riccardo Piatti. That constant support has helped the 22-year-old reach the position he is in today.
His mother, Siglinde Sinner, also worked closely with his father. Serving as a waitress at the same resort, she not only supported the family financially but also made sure to back the young tennis star in all aspects of his life. Following his semifinal win over Djokovic, Sinner was asked if his family would make an Australian Open appearance for the finals. The 22-year-old gave a clear answer, saying, “[My parents] are back home and they will stay home.” In their absence in Melbourne Park, he sent them a thoughtful message. He smiled and said, “Yeah, it is 8:15 in Europe. So, good morning, guys. But not only to my family, I think for for all the people who are close to me and all the Italian fans. It’s always really nice [to have your support].”
