While people are not very much aware of the American sensation who staged the upset, we bring you the details about the ‘Nadal slayer’.

All about Mackenzie McDonald

The story for Nadal and McDonald has been completely different in this year’s Australian Open. While the number one seed Nadal started his journey against a tough opponent, Jack Draper, he was off to an easy win. On the other hand, McDonald fought hard in his five-set win.

However, the tables turned in the second round where the 27-year-old probably played the best tennis of his life and earned a stunning victory against the 22-time Grand Slam champion. Talking about his early life, McDonald was born to Michael McDonald and Vivan Young.

As per The Family Nation, his father has a Scottish and English descent, while his mother is of Chinese origin. Vivian is a photographer and artist while her husband Michael is an oral surgeon.

Mackenzie was born and brought up in California. The 27-year-old made his professional tennis debut back in 2013. His best ATP all-time rank is world number 48.

This could be the last appearance of Rafael Nadal in Australia

Unlike last year, the 36-year-old Spaniard is finding it hard in 2023. While he had a great first half in 2022, he struggled with injuries and played in pain for the most part. Already suffering from a persistent foot issue, the 22-time Grand Slam champion is in trouble after his abdominal tear at the Wimbledon Championships 2022.
