Boris could definitely help me to improve my game. But if I want to work with him, first I have to win some tournaments because at the moment I cannot afford it,Alexander Zverev said in 2017. Fast forward to December 2024, Sascha now has 23 titles beside his name! Not only that, has now become the world’s number 2 and if we take a look at overall prize money, it’s currently $47,543,924! So, talking about affording, perhaps, that’s not a big worry for him at the moment. Now, what does Zverev think now of this idea of bringing Becker to his team?

Alexander Zverev was one of the most consistent performers this season. He played 86 matches and won 66 out of them. Zverev won two titles this season, but he has made quite a few deep runs in quite a few tournaments this season. The German looks in red-hot form at the moment and he’ll be keen to carry forward this momentum to the next season. Who wouldn’t want to coach a player like this in the 2025 season?

For those who are unaware, Zverev has been coached by his parents since he was very young. Even now, he’s coached by his father, Alexander Zverev Sr. Although, he has revealed that he doesn’t want any change in his team, at least till his campaigns in Australia. Still, he has kept the door wide open. During a recent interview with MAGAZIN, he revealed that he wants to hire the “right person.” Can Boris Becker be that? Well, speaking on the chances of Becker joining his team, Alexander Zverev added, “I love Boris, and I also believe that he has incredible knowledge of tennis. “

However, he further went on to add, “But I don’t know how he travels. That’s the only question mark. As soon as he has solved that and clarified it, we can talk about it. We are always in contact with him and talk to each other often. Now for Australia, it will stay as it is and then I’ll see.

The 57-year-old German is a well-known figure in the coaching world! He has won multiple titles during his tenure (2013-2016) with Novak Djokovic. After that, in 2023, he joined Holger Rune’s team, but he parted ways with the Dane in 2024.

For those who are unaware, Boris Becker has a travel ban to certain countries following his criminal conviction in 2022. So, he didn’t travel with Rune to Australia during the AO. even there are a few question marks on his travel to the UK for Wimbledon or the US for the US Open. Perhaps, these are some of the reasons why tennis commentator Mark Petechey stated these things will “limit people wanting to hire him (Becker).”

However, this isn’t the first time that we’ve seen Alexander Zverev being asked this type of question. In February this year, Zverev said “there is always a chance” that he could turn to Boris Becker to become his coach. However, even at that time, he also highlighted the same problem. Despite these, both of them have always kept in touch with each other and there have been various instances where we’ve seen Becker heaping praise on Sascha.

When Alexander Zverev became the first German to win the ATP Finals since Boris Becker (1995), the 57-year-old was spotted showering praise on his countryman. He said, “For years we have been saying tennis needs new faces and strong new players – and he’s proved he is the best of the next generation.” Zverev had beaten the likes of Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic on his way to the title triumph at the 2018 ATP Finals.

Sharing his thoughts on the incredible run, Becker added, “To beat them back-to-back in one of the biggest tournaments in the world tells him, most importantly, but also the world, that he is going to be the next big thing.” Then in 2020, when Alexander Zverev made a deep run at the AO, Becker was among the first ones to heap praise on the tennis star.

He said, “We exchanged some serious words off the court and he took them to heart. Of course, I’m happy he had such success. This is also a confirmation for him that he belongs at the top of the world (in tennis).” There have been multiple such instances where we saw both of them showering praise on each other.

In December 2023, during an interview with Eurosport, Boris Becker said he thinks Alexander Zverev doesn’t get the respect he deserves from the experts in the sport. Interestingly, he even added, ” I think his father is the right person to direct his career.” Speaking about Zverev’s admiration for the German legend, Remember that moment from the 2020 ATP Cup when Zverev said,

His (Becker’s) energy from the bench could be an essential element of our success; he is one of the most iconic sportsmen in German history“? So, there is quite a fair bit of mutual respect and admiration in between, but will Sascha ever bring Boris Becker into his team? What do you think of this?
