“I do believe that I’m not going to lose this procedure.”  These were the words of Alexander Zverev before he started his French Open campaign. The German crushed the hopes of the 14-time French Open champion, Rafael Nadal, as he began his journey. And since then the World No. 4 has sailed through the tournament as he plays quarterfinals against the Australian, Alex de Minaur. However as Zverev proceeds on the court at Roland Garros, so does the trial against him in the German court. 

It has been a tough season for the World No. 4. Sometime back, his ex-girlfriend filed a case against the German alleging domestic abuse. And as the testimonies proceed further, new updates abound. According to the recent updates, the trial had been put on hold due to the illness of the other party and would proceed on the 7th of June. Interestingly, Zverev is the favorite to win today’s quarterfinal

Journalist, Jonathan Crane shared the recent happening in Zverev’s case on X. He wrote, “Final update for today…Tomorrow’s court sitting has been cancelled due to the illness of one of the parties involved in the proceedings. The trial is now due to resume on June 7, with the ex-girlfriend continuing to give her testimony behind closed doors.”

However, Zverev has kept his distance from the proceedings of the case since he entered into the tournament. Undoubtedly a necessity to focus on the French Open. Therefore the World No.4 has refused to entertain any question regarding the same with the revert,I’ve said everything before the tournament. He does not believe the post-match conference is the place to be talking about anything other than tennis.

Alexander Zverev’s response to the ongoing proceedings regarding the case

To clear the air, and ensure the utmost focus and energy towards the French Open, the German settled the underlying curiosity about the ongoing judicial matter way before. When questioned case could distract him from preparations and disrupt his game?

The German optimistically repliedNot at all. Because, at the end of the day, I do believe in the German system. I do believe in knowing the truth as well. And I have to be certain that you know I do know what I did. I do know what I didn’t do. And that’s at the end of the day what’s going to come out. And, um, I have to trust in that.”

Certainly, with an eagle-eyed focus on the French Open championship, Zverev has been thoroughly focused on his campaign. And a favorite to win today’s match. However, the question of winning the tournament would be brought up later, as other youngsters, including Carlos Alcaraz, make their way through.
