Alexander Zverev registered a comfortable first round victory at the Wimbledon Championships 2021. He beat Tallon Griekspoor of Netherlands without dropping a set, with the final scoreline reading 6-3, 6-4, 6-1. The German national gave his verdict on the Big 3 debate, during his post-match press conference.

Zverev, who has won two titles this year, is part of the Next Gen of tennis greats and is one of the threats for the big guns at SW19. The World No.6 had a brilliant semifinal with Stefanos Tsitsipas at the French Open. He will eye a similar, if not better, performance at the grass court Grand Slam.

Alexander Zverev thinks the Big 3 are the Greatest of All Time

The Big 3 debate has been on for a long time, as three stars cemented themselves at the top of the sport and have continued to challenge each other every step of the way. Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic?have proven their worth in every Grand Slam tournament, and ATP tournaments as well.

However, people keep discussing the possibility of one of them being better than the other two. The stage they have reached today is, in no way, a normal feat.

They are the three greatest of all time, its as simple as that. We are hoping that they will continue playing for a very long time. Even though for us, we are trying to win Grand Slams, they kind of went away, we also do understand how much they mean for tennis and for the world of sports in general.

“They will be the biggest part of tennis that there ever was, and I think everybody will miss them once they are gone,” said Zverev after his Wimbledon first-round match.

Zverev at the Wimbledon Championships

Alexander Zverev has never won a title on grass court. The German’s best finish at the Wimbledon Championships has been a fourth-round exit. This year, with the likes of Rafael Nadal not playing, and other players growing old, Zverev has a real chance of putting up a title challenge.

His main threat would be World No.1, Novak Djokovic, who has also won his first-round match. The German will be hopeful of a first Grand Slam title, as this year is his best chance.

Alexander Zverev will be playing his second-round match against Tennys Sandgren on Thursday. It should be an easy win for the number four seed, as he will be looking to tighten his grip this year.
