Brothers are lifelong companions, overcoming life’s ups and downs together. For Alexander Zverev, this statement holds a special meaning! His older brother Mischa Zverev has been more than just a sibling. He has been a constant source of help and mentorship throughout his journey in the sport. As the ATP No. 2 is all set to feature in his first Grand Slam final in Melbourne, his elder brother Mischa Zverev has made an emotional prediction. What has he said about his younger brother’s chances in the big final on Sunday?

Zverev enters the ongoing AO final, having defeated the likes of Tommy Paul, Ugo Humbert, Novak Djokovic, and Jacob Fearnley. Last year, the German star had reached the semifinals of the Melbourne Slam and had clinched three titles: Italian Open, German Open, and Paris Masters through the season. His brilliance pushed him to the No. 2 position in the ATP rankings.

Zverev burst onto the scene almost a decade back when he won the 2014 Australian Open in the junior division. And, he has gone from strength to strength ever since. Throughout his journey, one constant support has been his brother Mischa Zverev.

Zverev’s elder brother took to his official IG story to drop his prediction about tomorrow’s Australian Open final. He shared two of Sascha’s photos combined as a collage; one representing his 2025 AO run, and another one showcasing him with his Australian Open Junior trophy. Sharing the collage, Mischa wrote, “On Sunday you will lift finally a GS,” with a trophy emoji. It truly reflected the elder brother’s pride for his younger sibling. Mischa Zverev also added two hashtags “#keepbelieveing #playing brave” that echoed his emotions. The photo was originally shared by TENNISCLUB WEISSENHORN’s IG account, which Zverev’s brother shared on his IG story.

Mischa Zverev’s support has been extremely vital in Alexander’s life. Remember when he backed his brother after the latter’s defeat against Rafael Nadal in the 2022 Roland Garros semifinals?  In that match, when the duo was leveled 6-6 in the second set, Zverev rolled his ankle and had to retire mid-match. He couldn’t play for seven months after that because of an injury from three torn ligaments.

When Zverev faced off against the Spaniard again in the 2024 French Open, Mischa Zverev stressed a lot had changed since their last encounter. He proudly remarked, “I’ve always said that Sascha could and should have won it back then. And he will win it this time too, because Rafa has become a bit slower and his fitness is no longer the same.” Alexander went on to beat Nadal in straight sets.

Alexander Zverev praised brother Mischa Zverev’s one special skill

When Alexander Zverev overpowered Carlos Alcaraz by 7-6(5), and 6-4 in the final group stage of the ATP Finals last year, he revealed he was trying to learn his elder brother’s volleying skills. “I’m not volleying like my brother yet. That’s why I’m not No. 1 in the world, but No. 2 (smiling). I still have something to improve for next year,” the German star said.

Despite Zverev’s confession, his brother believed that Sascha had a great serve with a natural motion since the beginning of his journey. Praising Zverev’s calmness and composure during his matches, Mischa said, “At the end of the day, Sascha is also a chess player on court, but with different tactics to Medvedev, who structures points and doesn’t like rallies with fewer than two shots.”

Alexander and Mischa’s relationship has remained the same since childhood. The World No. 2 once revealed how his elder brother still makes fun of him. “At home, nothing changed,” he remarked.

Mischa Zverev’s support constantly motivated Alexander Zverev to remain focused on his goal and work harder. With his brother’s support and guidance, the German star returned to the court after his nasty injury in the 2022 French Open. Zverev is now playing the best tennis of his life, showing what one can achieve with a supportive family.
