Has fatherhood truly tamed Alexander Bublik, or is the 'bad boy' still lurking beneath?

“Being a dad is the most rewarding job I’ve ever had”– Justin Timberlake. This statement is true for the “bad boy” of tennis, Alexander Bublik, as well. Known for his unapologetic and fierce nature, little did Bublik know that in 2022, the sweet embrace of fatherhood would be a game-changer experience for him. When a pair of tiny hands wrapped around his finger, his tough exterior crumbled, revealing his tender soul and creating a whole new world for the ATP star. Let’s hear from the dad himself!

When the tennis world was waiting for Alexander Bublik’s professional excellence and taking his country forward to win the Davis Cup, the then-25-year-old was busy accomplishing a different milestone in his life: welcoming his newborn baby, Vasily, on August 16. Since then, Bublik has been discovering different aspects of fatherhood, making a shift in his professional priorities as well. In an interview with TENNIS.com, he revealed, “You don’t really think about a Grand Slam when you’re having a baby.”

Skipping two of his tournaments, Bublik rushed to his wife, Tatiyana Bublik, to be by her side during the most precious moment of the couple’s lives. “They gave us three weeks, an approx. date. We didn’t know if it should have been Montreal or Cincy or the beginning of the US Open. But she felt like I have to come. We were waiting four or five days until the baby came out”. He wouldn’t have missed it for the world. Speaking about how he navigates around and adjusts to the amazing chapter that unfolded in his life, he further added, “We’re getting used to the new chapter of our life. It’s not that tough, as some say. It’s a lot more fun, even though he’s not speaking and sleeping all the time. Your home becomes even warmer and nicer, even though he’s crying. It’s incredible.”

Almost two years have passed since then. Although he remains quite private about his personal life, sometimes Bublik offers a few glimpses of his intimate moments with his son. For example, last year during his 2023 Open 13 in Marseille, Bublik’s victory became even sweeter, when his then-six-month-old boy watched him on TV, winning a match. Sharing that picture on social media where Vasily is watching his dad play, he added multiple heart emojis, further underscoring the beautiful moment with his boy! After all, his father wants to be the “best” for him both on and off-court!

Alexander Bublik reveals how fatherhood has “turned the page” in his life

Since the time when Alexander Bublik welcomed their little bundle of joy, the tennis world has witnessed his softer side off-court. Be it taking him on vacations or playing with him in the snow, Bublik wants to share every moment with him and make it memorable. Bublik’s motto is straightforward: he wants to be the best dad!

“I want just to be the best for him. So that’s the only thing I care about around this moment because it really changes the life. It’s like he just turned the page. All the problems you think you had, just disappear. You don’t really think about anything else.”

Alexander Bublik might now be playing at Wimbledon, giving his best shot on-court, with the aim of winning his first Grand Slam. However, in his personal life, the former World No. 17 is on a mission to produce his best results as a dad!
