A little more than a decade ago, when an athlete turned 30, it was claimed that they had reached the twilight of their careers, and wouldn’t play for much longer. However, that is not the case anymore; athletes play well into their 30s and even their 40s. Novak Djokovic is a prime example of such an athlete, who continues to demolish the competition at the age of 36.
Djokovic is not the only player who is actively at the top in their 30s. Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams, and many more players played past their 30s and even won several titles.

Chanda Rubin is a former top-10 player who now works as a broadcaster for Tennis Channel. She recently sat down for an episode of Tennis Channel Inside-In with Patrick McEnroe, where they talked about several aspects of the game today. The two couldn’t miss talking about Djokovic, as he continues to dominate the scene of tennis. Rubin, especially, was highly impressed by the quality and longevity of the Serbian player.
She said, “You know, it’s been a number of years now, where Djokovic was maybe one match, or that happened this year, one match short of winning all four (Grand Slams). I mean, in hindsight, you look at it, and you go, how is he doing this still post-35 now, and he still looks as fit as ever, he looks like he can go the distance with anybody, age out of the window.”
She further talked about how the Serbian still looks motivated, “And he just seems to keep being motivated to do more and more. And he said it: he wants to win everything and break every record. I mean, that’s a special type of mindset, no doubt at all. And then he still wants more.”
Djokovic’s career would not have lasted to such an extent if he had come into tennis a few decades ago. He has overcome the barrier, but he is not the only one who has managed to win slams in their 30s.

Other stars who have won titles in their 30s
Serena Williams amassed the most number of slams after she turned 30. The Queen of the Court won 10 titles after she crossed the barrier of 30. She is followed by Rafael Nadal. The King of Clay has won eight titles since turning 30, with five coming from the French Open. He is followed by Federer, who managed to win four titles after he turned thirty.
While most players won slams in their 30s in the last decade, two players won their titles a long time ago. Rod Laver won the Grand Slam achievement in 1969, having turned 30 in August 1968. Along with him, Ken Rosewall, one of his major rivals, also won four grand slams after he turned 30.
