The 23-time Grand Slam champion, Novak Djokovic, is no stranger to controversy. From being deported from Australia in 2022 to refusing the Covid-19 vaccine, the Djoker has been in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. Now, when the Serbian tennis legend’s name came up in a leaked document that led to the closure of the bank accounts of former UKIP leader Nigel Farage at the prestigious Coutts Bank, the worlds of tennis and politics collided unexpectedly.
This revelation was greeted with a furious discussion among ministers after Conservative MPs questioned the PM in the British Parliament.

Novak Djokovic’s name comes up in another controversy!
In the matter of Coutts’ bold choice to shut down Farage’s accounts, it appears that his public endorsement of the renowned Serbian tennis player on social media has been influential. A 40-page long document received by Farage highlighted various concerns, including his retweet of a joke by an internet celebrity, prompting inquiries about possible associations with alleged racism.
One particular social media update by the said tennis star in the document stood out: “It doesn’t matter how many times you get vaccinated, you can still catch Coronavirus. This is no longer about health – it’s about state control.”

Djokovic’s post, among 13 others, was carefully put into consideration before closing the political leader’s account. Coutts officials explained, “The Committee did not think continuing to bank (Nigel Farage) was compatible with Coutts given his publicly-stated views that were at odds with our position as an inclusive organization,” as reported by Express News.

The complex decision-making process
A full dossier on Farage, consisting of not less than 36 pages, provided grounds for Coutts’ decision to terminate his relationship with the bank. The article touched on Farage’s relationships with celebrities like Donald Trump and Novak Djokovic, his opposition to the net zero policy advocated by King Charles III, as well as criticism of him.
However, according to reports, expelling Farage as a customer proved to be a complex matter. The document showed that there was no evidence of any illegitimate activities against him, and he was always polite to the bank’s staff. Furthermore, Farage’s risk classification had been downgraded, indicating a reduced risk profile, according to The Telegraph.
As a result of their lack of financial reasons for shutting down the accounts, Coutts ultimately concluded that Farage’s stance was incompatible with their values of inclusion and purpose. The bank decided, after nearly ten years service, to end its relationship with the former UKIP leader.
