Tomas Etcheverry’s love for Novak Djokovic first surfaced on social media in 2016, when the Argentinian posted a picture of him winning the first ATP point. At that time he jokingly compared himself with Novak Djokovic. Then 6 years later on April 12, 2022, yet again a photo of him surfaced on the internet.

That moment was captured a day later when he reached the Top 100. Etcheverry was seen announcing his new rank of 95 in the world in a unique style. He held a placard in his hand which showed his points along with the points earned by Novak Djokovic at the time and the difference between them. He wrote in the caption, “A dream that started many years ago is being fulfilled. I’m getting closer, Novak Djokovic. 95 of the ATP Tour! This is just getting started.

Guess what, that youngster has now made it to number 32 in the men’s singles ranking. He has already faced Novak Djokovic twice in his career. Although he couldn’t do much with the outcomes of the matches, surely he’d love to impress his idol when he meets him next time on the other side of the court on Friday.

Etcheverry is keen to talk to his idol, Novak Djokovic

The 24YO Argentinian had revealed earlier that he hasn’t yet got the chance to talk to his idol. “Not yet! Hopefully, in the future, I will get the chance to talk to him. I love him, it is true because since I was a child I wanted to be like him, I play with the same racquet like Novak…I’m trying to do some shots like him. Of course, he’s my idol, and hopefully, in the future, I can speak with him.”

Although he believes Novak Djokovic is the GOAT, on Friday, Etcheverry will surely keep all his fascination aside on the court and look forward to giving a tough fight to the world no.1.
