Frances Tiafoe’s recent social media post has touched the hearts of fans worldwide! The American tennis pro who is currently making waves in the Stuttgart Open is away from his family due to the tournament. However, it does not mean he is not going to lose the opportunity to celebrate his mother Alphina Kamara’s birthday! In a heartwarming post, Tiafoe paid a special tribute to his mother on her 60th birthday.

Alphina Kamara’s influence on her son’s journey in tennis is remarkable. When Tiafoe’s love for tennis began at the age of 3, Alphina’s encouragement kept him focused on his passion. As the former World No. 10 now continues his journey up the ladder of success, Frances Tiafoe does not forget to appreciate his mother’s contribution to his life. 

Therefore, on the occasion of her 60th birthday, Tiafoe took to his Instagram story and posted his mother’s picture with a heartfelt note. Captioned, “Moms have lived 60 years today. Love yaaa thank you for all you have done for me. Wish I was with yaa see you soon. Africa queen ❤️❤️❤️ 🤞🏿🤞🏿🤞🏿,” the picture displayed Kamara smiling at the camera while sitting on a staircase. The picture from his story was initially posted by his mother, Kamara, herself, who generally keeps a low profile on her Instagram.

However, when it comes to supporting his son, Kamara, who worked as a nurse at a hospital, ensured that Tiafoe gets all the tennis facilities needed to pursue his dream of playing the racquet sport. Apart from that, she also had to take a part-time job in order to support Frances Tiafoe and his twin brother, Franklin’s love for tennis. “Mom worked as a nurse practitioner and we spent most of our time living with her on the other side of town,” the 26-year-old player once said in an interview.

‘Big Foe’, who moved from Sierra Leone to U.S.A. in 1996, did not have it easy initially. He once revealed how his parents worked around the clock to keep alive his and his brother’s dreams of playing tennis. “I realize now how hard he worked, and how much he sacrificed, to allow my brother and me to chase our dreams and have the life he and my mom wanted us to have. The one they couldn’t have in Sierra Leone.”

Apart from her mother’s contribution to his life, a few years ago, Tiafoe also revealed how Alphina’s work during the lockdown period in 2020 was an inspiration to him and everyone.

During COVID, Frances Tiafoe participated in an open letter for The Players’ Tribune. Titled “Nurse Mom,” he delved into his deep connection with his mother, while also shedding light on the selfless service that she provided during the pandemic. “I think, as a kid, you know having your mom be a nurse is a pretty cool job,” he began.

“Fast-forward to 2020 and having your mom be a nurse. It’s scary. You know, when the pandemic first broke out I was just like, Mom, you gotta sit this one out. Please.” Frances Tiafoe further added, “She didn’t listen. Because she loves to work.”

He also mentioned that even when he tested positive for COVID, his mother used to drop off his medicines and meals for him every day. Acknowledging his mother’s as well as every member of the medical line’s contribution to society during the pandemic, Tiafoe also urged everyone to stay safe. “Do it for my mom,” he concluded. It’s the power of family!
