Novak Djokovic is the epitome of fitness when it comes to sports. His body and gluten-free diet are the major reasons behind his being successful in his mid-30s. Even at 36 years of age, the Serb manages to outlast the younger generation of players in the best-of-five formats. The 23-time major champion’s body is as elastic as that of a gymnast and no qualms can be raised about him not being the fittest men’s tennis player of all time.
However, one journalist recently came up with a weird question that suggested Djokovic wasn’t fit enough. He also gave an example of Andy Roddick and Mardy Fish, wondering if the Serb would like to emulate them.

Novak Djokovic responds to a surprising question about his fitness
After registering a victory over Stan Wawrinka in the third round of Wimbledon, Djokovic sat for a long press conference. A journalist mentioned how Andy Roddick and Mardy Fish became thinner and more elastic, but Djokovic seems to have gained weight in the later stages of his career.
The Serb in response said, “Hard for me to get slimmer than I already am. I went through my phases when I was very slim and struggled with some problems with my stomach. But I think I have an optimal weight right now. It’s a superficial thing, there are many aspects to body weight. You need to combine it with being dynamic, powerful and flexible.”
Despite the journalist’s question, Djokovic still happens to be the most elastic player on the tour. The Serb answered the question with calmness and went on to explain the dynamics involved in a player’s physique.

Djokovic’s elasticity is second to none. His ability to slide on all surfaces on both wings is commendable. It also allows him to smack some of the best passing shots in the game. In fact, the Serb stunned the world at last year’s Wimbledon when he slid off both wings and hit a perfect passing winner past Jannik Sinner.
