Yesterday, World Number 1, Novak Djokovic, showed why he is on top of the ATP rankings chart. The Serb completed a thrilling comeback over Lorenzo Musetti in the third round of the French Open. After being 2-1 down, Djokovic returned to his peak form to win the last two sets in an amazing turnaround. Despite his thrilling win, all is not going well for Djokovic in Paris.

The Serb’s match against Musetti lasted just less than 4 and a half hours. While the match took place in the night session, this resulted in Djokovic leaving the court at 3:20 AM. However, the organizers have shown no mercy toward him as the Serbian is scheduled to play his next match in the day session tomorrow. As a result, this hasn’t gone down well with Djokovic’s fans as this leaves him with little time for recovery.

The fans took to social media and hit out at the tournament’s organizers for poor scheduling of the matches. One of the fans revealed that this scheduling didn’t make sense at all as Djokovic was left with hardly any time for recovery. The comment read, “How does all this even make even the slightest of the sense? I don’t get it.”

Meanwhile, one Twitter user pointed at Djokovic’s age, highlighting how the organizers missed a crucial aspect while deciding the order of play. The fan revealed, “Why are they doing this to a 40 year old?” While Djokovic’s real age is of course 37, he’s no doubt a veteran of the game and clearly struggling with form this year. Haywire schedules don’t help anyone.

Coming out hard with the same sentiment, one fan said, “The scheduling is absolutely f*cked up.” While Djokovic is not the first one to be handed a next to impossible schedule, performing his best until the finals at least is of utmost importance if he is to keep his No. 1 crown.

Further, one of the Twitter users pointed out how this year’s French Open has become infamous due to a lot of controversies, with Djokovic’s hectic scheduling adding to that list. The comment read, “Nothing can surprise me anymore. This year’s RG is one to remember. (Or maybe to forget?)”

Lastly, one fan slammed the ‘messed up’ schedule of the French Open. What’s more, they claimed to not even like the Serbian! “Not a Novak fan but this is messed up” If even a non-fan can support the World No. 1, what does it say about the tournament organizers?

Not only the fans but also Djokovic himself has been left frustrated with the scheduling of his matches at the French Open. Following his match against Musetti yesterday, he questioned the idea of matches going late into the night.

Novak Djokovic explains his physical struggles

As if the rain gods weren’t enough, Djokovic was stretched in his third-round match due to which he finished late in the night. This took a toll on Djokovic’s body, who hasn’t been in the best of physical shapes lately. As a result, he made his feelings felt and vented his frustration out on this.

Djokovic revealed, “When you’re playing a 20+ rally at 2 am… Who plays at 2 am? You play a few matches in your life at this time. It was so muggy and so heavy conditions, very cold, the balls were not going anywhere. You weren’t getting too many free points off the serve, so you had to work every single point of the night tonight, and that’s why I really physically pushed myself to the limit tonight.”

It remains to be seen how Djokovic can recover after playing a four-and-a-half-hour match against Musetti yesterday. The Serb will take on Francisco Cerundolo for a place in the French Open quarterfinals tomorrow. Can Djokovic cope with this scheduling mess and triumph at the French Open?
