Nick Kyrgios has been absent from tennis since January 2023. He has only played one exhibition match before his hiatus, and there is no clear news of when he plans on coming back. He said he would return to certain tournaments throughout the year but had to withdraw from them due to persistent injuries. As some of the fans can no longer wait anymore for Kyrgios’ return, he steps up himself and asks everyone to stop spreading ‘garbage’. 

While still out of the on-court tennis action, Kyrgios talked about being done with the sport, which gave fire to retirement rumors. But, he was quick to quash any such statement as he addressed it on his social media.

Nick Kyrgios’s hiatus gave his fans much anticipation about his return. He was eventually announced to play in the Australian Open, this year, but he once again announced the news of his withdrawal by making an Only Fans account. The move turned the anticipation into annoyance, and many stopped waiting for his comeback. 

Recently, many started talking about his retirement, which came to the notice of the player. He cleared the air by sharing a post on his Instagram story. He shared a picture of him waiting for a serve and wrote, “Attention… I am not retiring 😂😂😂 Please stop spreading this garbage. I’m coming back and will be lighting up courts soon!“.

He then shared a video where he made sure to say, “Hey guys. So I’ve woken up today and realized about some articles going around and saying I’m retired, and I’m not gonna play anymore, and I just wanna clear it up. It’s absolute nonsense. Yes, the last year has been tough with injuries, my knee, my wrist.”

Talking about his intentions, Kyrgios added, “But I’m hungry as ever, constantly rehabbing in the gym. You know, part of the reason why I’m commentating and doing all those things around AO is to still feel that fire and still be a part of it. So I just wanna let everyone know, all my fans, I’m coming back. Stay tuned; there’s plenty left in the tank.”

The rumors of his retirement started flying when an article on Nick Kyrgios said he was contemplating retirement. Although now he has made his intentions clearer than ever, fans will take some time to wrap their heads around this confusion.

Writing to Nine Newspapers, Kyrgios said, “The reality is, there is a part of me that knows my time in the sport may be over. And I’m OK with that.” His words had a deep impact as they resonated with a retirement announcement soon. As the words took hold of all media publications, he backtracked on his statement not long after the article went live.

Kyrgios has created quite the confusion surrounding his retirement. The player seems to be sending mixed signals about his own future. Regardless of whatever message one receives, Kyrgios has the power to ensure the continuation of his tennis career.
