The Russian tennis sensation, Daniil Medvedev, played his last official match at the WTA Finals in Turin. Despite finishing 2024 ranked No. 5 in the ATP rankings, the 28-year-old has been notably absent from the start of the new year, having not yet traveled to Australia for any warm-up tournaments or the upcoming Australian Open. While this had sparked questions, Medvedev has finally given a sweet surprise by announcing the birth of his second child, with his wife Daria Medvedeva.
In a sweet and surprising moment, Medvedev took to his Instagram to share a picture and reveal that the couple has welcomed their second child. In the picture, Medvedev can be seen holding his newborn in his hand with his elder daughter, Alisa, sitting beside him. Medvedev is donning a white attire with the Lacoste logo etched on it. Captioning the picture, he wrote, “Happy 2025 ❤️,” as he can be seen visibly ecstatic in the picture.

Remember, Daniil Medvedev tied the knot with Daria in 2018 after meeting her in 2014. The couple welcomed their first child, Alisa, in 2022. In a conversation with TENNIS.com last fall, the 2021 US Open champion revealed a heartwarming connection with his daughter.
“If something doesn’t go her way, then she throws a toy in anger or bites it,” joked Medvedev. “My wife is looking at me saying, ‘Okay, where does it come from?’ And that’s pretty funny because you start asking yourself if it’s just pure genetics and I don’t have an answer to this question!”
Meanwhile, the announcement has raised yet another question, and it’s about Medvedev’s participation in the Australian Open. While only time will tell if the birth of his second child will impact his participation in the first Grand Slam of the year, Medvedev seems to be completely aware of his goals for this season.

When Daniil Medvedev talked about his plans for 2025
Daniil Medvedev struggled quite a lot in the last season. Despite reaching the finals of the Australian Open and the Indian Wells, he could not manage to clinch any title. Despite having a decent win-loss ratio of 46-21, he faced persistent challenges especially, against Jannik Sinner. The duo met 6-times on the court with the Russian baffling in five of these encounters. But as he prepares to play in 2025, he seems to have found some techniques.
Speaking about the same in November this year after losing the ATP Finals, he said, “This year, Simon and I got to know each other better; we got to know each other well. Now we will try to do a thorough pre-season preparation together and see what comes of it.” Continuing further, he revealed that he has some plans already decided, however, he demonstrated his reluctance to share much detail.

“I won’t go into details, but I have an idea of how to improve my game with the balls I’m using now. It’s not a fact that it will work. But I need to try to find a way to beat Jannik Sinner again, to whom I’ve lost so many times in recent months.” Now, with the birth of his second child, it will be crucial to see if there will be any changes in his planning and if the latest life update will impact his professional duties.
