German tennis star Alexander Zverev is among the best tennis players in the world right now. While there’s no doubt about his prowess as a tennis player, the German tennis star surely has some anger management issues. Not long ago, he had a violent outburst at the chair umpire in the Mexican Open. Time flies so quickly and a year has passed already since the incident occurred.

It happened last year at Acapulco. Alexander Zverev partnered with Marcelo Melo to compete in the doubles leg of the Mexican Open. In a match against the pair of Lloyd Glasspool and Harri Heliovaara. It was here when a tight call from the umpire went against Zverev and Melo.
Zverev protested back then, but his anger went out of control as the match ended. After the end of the match, Zverev angrily smashed his racket thrice on the Umpire’s chair. He sat down for a moment and yelled again at the Umpire. Meanwhile, when Zverev hit the chair, Umpire raised his legs in the fear of getting hit. Moments later, he walked down the chair and left.
ATP acted swiftly and, as per ESPN, Zverev got a code violation and had to leave the Mexican Open immediately. The German later apologized for his embarrassing behavior. However, the tennis fans haven’t forgiven him yet. Here’s how fans reacted as the incident completed one year today.

Most of the fans were not happy with the bare minimum punishment the German received for such an act. It also called for a criminal charge. A few of the fans also blamed the ATP for the double standard, recalling the US Open incident that led to Djokovic missing the rest of the tournament after accidentally hitting a ball girl.
Serena Williams‘ fans also echoed a similar opinion. The American legend had to face a lot of backlash for the controversial 2018 US Open final argument with the chair umpire. Later, many prominent personalities backed Serena amidst the controversy.
