Carlos Alcaraz's new tattoo—A bold move or just another trend among young athletes?

Carlos Alcaraz is all set to get inked at the peril of a scolding. Following his elated triumph at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships, the Spaniard plans to commemorate the occasion with a tattoo. He had the same idea after clinching his first French Open, but plans for an inkwork are in motion now. However, Alcaraz’s parents might not be overboard with this idea.

The former World No. 1 showed unmatched talent this SW19. He thwarted challenges from Frances Tiafoe and Daniil Medvedev on his way to the final. In the event’s summit clash, Alcaraz went a step beyond his performance from last year, downing 7-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, 7-6(4).

Appearing on Tennis Channel after his post-Wimbledon victory, the Spaniard was asked about his tattoo plans. Alcaraz stated that he’d acquired his parents’ permission to get inked for his maiden major wins. However, the World No. 3 feels his second consecutive SW19 triumph is just as significant. He hilariously hinted he might run into troubled waters discussing the same with his parents. “I told my parents that it’s just the first one in every Major. But I think this is a really big moment. I’m gonna put the date of this one next to the last year’s. I have to discuss with them.”

In 2022, Alcaraz revealed his tattoos after bagging the US Open and finishing the season as the World No. 1 for the first time. In celebration of his maiden Flushing Meadows glory, the Spaniard inked his victory date “11.09.2022” above his left elbow.

After he bagged the French Open, Alcaraz shared his plans to get the Eiffel Tower tattooed on his left ankle. “It will be on the left ankle – the Eiffel Tower and today’s date,” Alcaraz said. Although he announced the plan soon after his victory, we have yet to see confirmation of the inkwork.

While Alcaraz disclosed that his parents wouldn’t be too pleased with his decision to get a new tattoo, he intends to get it done soon. The Spaniard already has a tattoo to commemorate his maiden title. As we might see an addition to it soon, he has planned a tattoo for a tournament that is yet to take place.
