Some tournaments can define a player’s legacy. A  player dominates the competition in such a way that the tournament becomes synonymous with that player’s name. Rafael Nadal is one player who is always the favorite for the French Open; the tournament has become known for him. A player who agrees with this notion is world no 2 tennis player Carlos Alcaraz. He even compared him to one of the biggest soccer teams in the world which also happens to be Nadal’s favorite team.

Rafael Nadal first participated in the French Open in 2005 and astounded the world by winning his first grand slam. Ever since he won 14 French Open titles, most by any player. This run has earned him the name of the ‘King of Clay’ and established him as one of the greatest players to ever play the game.

Carlos Alcaraz gives his opinion on The French Open and Rafael Nadal

The Madrid Open has kicked off, and the locals are hoping for a Spanish player to clinch the trophy. The Barcelona Open winner, Carlos Alcaraz, is the favorite for the tournament. Being the current world number 2, he is the most sought-after player for interviews. He landed in the Spanish capital for the Madrid Open and conducted an interview with the Madrid Open YouTube channel.

In the interview, He discussed his hopes for the French Open and Wimbledon. Additionally, Alcaraz also talked about Rafael Nadal’s absence in this year’s clay season. As per the 19-year-old, Rafa is to French Open is like what Real Madrid is to the UEFA champions league. Real Madrid has won the champions league 14 times, which makes them the team with the most champions league titles. Interestingly, the team won the champions league the same number of times as Rafa has won the Roland Garros.

Rafael Nadal is to Roland Garros what Real Madrid is to the UEFA Champions League,” was the comparison made by Alcaraz. These comments of Alcaraz came after he said that he could probably beat Nadal if he faced him in the French Open. He believes he can emerge triumphant, but knows that Nadal becomes very difficult to play against in Roland Garros.

Rafael Nadal: The Real Madrid fan

If ‘The King of Clay’ heard the comments made by Alcaraz, he would be on cloud nine. The 22-time grand slam champion is a big fan of Real Madrid and loves Los Blancos as much as any other Madrid native. Rafa attended the champions league final in 2022 which was between Real Madrid and Liverpool. He later thanked the team and UEFA for inviting him to watch the match.
