Throughout the press conference, McEnroe was at his entertaining best. While he made fun of himself, he praised his partner Graf. While lauding her game in her 30s, the former world number 1 also compared her with younger generation players, particularly Martina Hingis.
“Steffi is going to destroy another teenager mentally. (Martina) Hingis is a basket case,” he said, smiling and turning to his partner. “You see, it’s nice to be 30.”
Graf, on the other hand, was a bit embarrassed with all the flattery, but also had a good time laughing at McEnroe’s comments. Later, the duo made it to the semifinal of the tournament. However, they were forced to pull out of the tournament.
