According to Forbes, the Swiss ace was the highest-paid athlete in the world. Roger Federer was the first tennis player to occupy the No. 1 spot ever since the list was launched in 1990. In 2022, he has done it again. His retirement match tickets were much more expensive than the 2022 World Cup final match tickets. In an exclusive interview, Chris Newbold, the sports director of Vision4Sport explained the phenomenon of Federer’s enormous global popularity.
The sport’s director was quoted as saying,” It’s a tough comparison to make but I think Federer captures everyone’s imagination more than any other sportsman that we’ve seen in the modern era.”
He also revealed that Laver Cup attendees were prepared to shell out up to £15,000 for an exhibition match because they knew it would be Federer’s last match.
He further said that when one pays to go and watch Federer, the fan is sure to see Federer. If either Ronaldo or Messi is injured during a World Cup match, the fan will miss out on seeing his idol.
Newbold further clarified,” you’re paying to watch the team, not the individual.”

Numerous tennis fans had gathered to watch Federer’s final match at the O2 Stadium in London. Prices for the event’s tickets had gone through the roof as demand for them increased. A ticket for the event’s final day cost as much as 77,000 Swiss francs (£69,900). In the end, some fans paid as much as £15,000 to watch the maestro perform one last time.
However, the most expensive World Cup final seat in Qatar costs a pitiful £6,000.
