Novak Djokovic is usually known for his unprecedented achievements and dominance on the tennis court. The Serbian tennis legend has now also taken that striking personality to his off-court endeavors that include his rebel tennis association, Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA). It was established with the sole purpose of addressing players’ welfare and interests.
Since then, the Australian Open champion’s association has been surrounded by a number of controversies and speculations in the tennis community. Talking about it, the 22 singles Grand Slam champion recently expressed his astonishment over the tennis authorities and their pay distribution.
Novak Djokovic speaks up on the PTPA immediate agenda and organizational structure

Many in the tennis community believe that players’ interests are not being considered by the existing authorities – ITF and ATP. The list of such players includes the Serbian tennis legend along with a number of tennis superstars. Taking note of it, Novak Djokovic previously came up with the idea of establishing his own players’ organization, the PTPA, to address various issues.

The Canadian tennis player, Vasek Pospisil, also accompanied him in those off-court endeavors and initiatives. Even the Tunisian tennis star, Ons Jabeur, has now become a part of the executive committee of his organization. Notably, the entire sporting realm is intrigued to know about their plans regarding the ‘controversial’ PTPA.
Djokovic was also asked about his immediate agenda during a press conference that was held during the Dubai Tennis Championship. He answered by saying that their organizational structure is in place with all the relevant departments. Talking about the strategies and plans, Djokovic said that their main priority is to work for the players’ welfare.

The Australian Open champion revealed how the lower-ranked players have struggled with the existing authorities. There are thousands of players competing in the tennis realm. However, only a few of them gets into of category of top tournaments and events. That’s something that has been bothering the Serbian tennis legend. The ‘Djoker’ further wants to address such issues given the massive viewership of the game.
Notably, he said, “We are, by some statistics, third or fourth most globally watched sports. 1.3 billion people watch it, yet we can’t have more than 400 people living from this sport, both men and women.”
Djokovic also brought to light the struggles of the pay distribution for the lower-ranked players. Hence, the PTPA will aim to raise their voices on behalf of all such players in the tennis community.
