Taylor Fritz's self-criticism: A sign of greatness or unnecessary pressure on himself?

Taylor Fritz achieved a goal he had been trying to acquire for long. After multiple quarterfinal setbacks in recent years, Fritz finally reached the semifinals in the ongoing US Open. This ATP star’s performance impressed the fraternity including his beau Morgan Riddle. Inspired by Fritz’s success, Riddle shared something interesting about her partner, revealing how self-criticism helped Fritz to accomplish his dreams.

The official Instagram page of the US Open gave a huge shout-out to Taylor Fritz after the ATP star entered the Slam’s semifinals. The tournament’s social media page shared a collage of Fritz, wherein the first image shared was a screenshot of Riddle’s Instagram story. It is about how Fritz criticized his 2021 Wimbledon performance.

Despite his best efforts, Fritz lost Alexander Zverev in a tough four-set match in round 3. Fritz reminded himself of “underachieving” and used rather harsh words for himself to tell himself to work harder. This was also when he dropped out of the top 40.

Sharing a screenshot of the original note, Riddle mentioned to her followers, “ a note taylor wrote himself on the bus at Wimbledon on my phone after he lost and dropped out of the top 4o hahaaha.” the US Open’s Instagram account shared a screenshot of Riddle’s story and captioned it, “Never give up on yourself 🥹.

After Fritz’s early exit from the 2024 Canadian Open and 2024 Cincinnati Masters, the fraternity did not believe he would fare well in the US Open. Now that Fritz has proven his worth, the US Open portrays him as one of the best sources of inspiration for youngsters.
