Frances Tiafoe started his hometown tournament campaign at Mubadala Citi Open with a 7-6 7-6 win over a tricky Aslan Karatsev in the Round of 32. Being a local boy, he unsurprisingly received plenty of support from the fans. However, there was an iconic name in the stands today who came to cheer for Tiafoe.
Tiafoe’s love for sports is not just limited to tennis. He has grown up watching multiple sports and cheered for the DC-based athletes and teams. And when we talk about athletes coming from Washington, DC, NBA icon Kevin Durant is the first name that comes to one’s mind. The World No. 10 has just now shared a lovely on-court moment with the Phoenix Suns‘ forward.

As is customary, right after their victory, the winning player acknowledges the crowd before he settled for a small on-court interview. Tiafoe’s acknowledgment lasted long as the home fans cheered for him from the very beginning. It continued till even after his opponent had left the court. Only something – or rather, someone – special could have interrupted Tiafoe.
When Kevin Durant stepped on the court, an excited Tiafoe walked toward him. They shared a high five and a hug as the two American sporting icons embraced each other warmly. The crowd volume reached its absolute peak as the fans saw two of the biggest names in Washington, DC, share a heartening moment.
