However, one of his Wimbledon matches was made even more memorable by the presence of a former NBA star. One of the greatest basketball athletes, Shaquille O’Neal joined a plethora of fans in greeting the British tennis star with a standing ovation. Additionally, Murray later revealed his conversation with the former American basketball player.

The 3-time singles Grand Slam champion played against the Belgian tennis player, David Goffin, during the Wimbledon first-round match in 2014. Andy Murray started the event to defend his Grand Slam title, with his incredible performance as he defeated Goffin.

The former NBA star, Shaquille O’Neal, was also in the royal box to witness the British tennis player’s incredible performance at the Centre Court. After being amused by Murray’s performance,  O’Neal further met him after the Grand Slam match. Murray later talked about his meeting with the former American basketball player. The former Wimbledon champion stated, “He’s a big boy, that’s for sure. He was huge. He’s very entertaining,”

Murray is also a huge basketball fan and he loves to watch some of the greatest basketball players on the court. The 3-time singles Grand Slam champion went on to talk about O’Neal as he stated, “He said that was the first time he’d been to the tennis before, He enjoyed it.

Other notable figures like Sir Jackie Stewart, Pixie Lott, Ellie Goulding, and Gill Hinchcliffe were also there for the event.

Murray’s brilliant performance during his first Grand Slam triumph

The former World No 1 tennis player faced various hardships and challenges because of his injuries before Wimbledon in 2013. However, he worked to return and participated in the Grand Slam event. Murray started the tournament brilliantly as he defeated the former Geman tennis player, Benjamin Becker. The British tennis player then went on to beat the former Taiwanese tennis player, Lu Yen-Hsun, in the second-round match.

In the semifinal match, Murray knocked out the Polish tennis player, Jerzy Janowicz. Later on, Murray defeated one of the tennis greats, Novak Djokovic in the final match at Wimbledon.
