The sports world is never short on new stories, and the tennis community is no different. Recently, a fellow compatriot of the Serbian tennis legend made an accusation that the US Open prevented Novak Djokovic from winning another title.

Novak Djokovic’s last title win at the US Open was in 2018. However, after that, the Serb faced nothing less than sheer bad luck at Flushing Meadows.

In the years that followed, Djokovic had a somewhat difficult time at the US Open. Djokovic was eliminated in 2020 after accidentally hitting a linesman with the ball, furthermore, he lost to Daniil Medvedev in the final in 2021. To make matters worse, he was barred from competing at the US Open in 2022 due to COVID-19 restrictions. Djokovic opted not to be vaccinated and had to quit the tournament as a result. This ordeal also introduced “#NoVax” as a popular hashtag on social media.

However, a Serbian basketball player, Danilo Anđušić, has stepped into the spotlight with some surprising statements. Andusic pointed towards the possibility that there might have been some unfairness or rule-bending during the US Open that could have made Djokovic’s quest for more wins in New York a bit tougher. This interaction started when US Open post a tweet stating, “No one currently playing has won more than Novak Djokovic,” to which Andusic retweeted, stating, “He would win even more if you didn’t cheat.”

This interaction led to a lot of introspection. However, Novak Djokovic seems to have his eyes set on his 4th US Open title after a phenomenal win at Cincinnati.

But the tennis narrative is nothing if not dramatic, and Djokovic’s return to the center stage was nothing short of a crescendo. The Western and Southern Open saw him clinch victory in a captivating match against world no.1 Carlos Alcaraz. This triumph marked Djokovic’s 39th ATP Masters 1000 title and his 1,069th ATP Tour victory, vaulting him beyond the accomplishments of revered names like Ivan Lendl and Rafael Nadal. Notably, he set an age record, emerging as the oldest player to capture the Cincinnati Master’s title.
