Tennis players have long complained about the difficulties they are recently facing in Tennis tournaments due to the use of different Tennis balls. From Novak Djokovic to Carlos Alcaraz, all famous Tennis stars have spoken about it. Now these players argue that the random changing of balls during the tournament impact players by adding more injury. However, Tennis stalwart Jimmy Connors and his son Brett Connors are not in agreement with these players.

The list of tennis players complaining about the issues of balls and new sponsors every week is long. It includes names like Daniil Medvedev, Taylor Fritz, Stan Wawrinka and many more. While these players demand a standard ball for the ATP tournaments, Connors believes the modern-day players simply lack the skill!

Recently Novak Djokovic had a talk with the CEO and the President of the ATP regarding the balls. However, Djokovic’s complaints also didn’t impact the world’s former number-one Jimmy Connor and his equally talented son Brett Connor. Recently in their podcast Advantage Connors which is now deleted, they mentioned Alcaraz’s outburst about the matter to deliver their bits on the matter. Brett Connors starts by addressing that “there is no universal ball for tennis“, but he again addresses that if it is a different surface, then it works but the players used twenty/twenty-two different balls throughout the ATP tournaments.

In this context, Jimmy Connors addresses that although the surface of the courts used in most of the ATP tournaments was almost the same, the authority still changed the balls. However, Jimmy Connors added an exclusive remark here when he mentioned that Alcaraz had three consecutive defeats and yet he complained about the heavy ball and fast court surface! He said- “How can you please everybody?” This comment surely suggests that this veteran tennis champion does not at all agree with modern tennis players’ complaints.

After Jimmy Connors’ comments, fans were assured that the veteran tennis legend didn’t want players to get afraid of the difficult situations on the court. They want modern players to understand that their skills are beyond these.

What did Alcaraz say about the tennis ball controversy?

Carlos Alcaraz stepped forward to speak against the impact of changing the tennis balls multiple times during the tournaments. It was when he received his defeat against Alexander Zverev. Alcaraz mentioned how this change in balls is causing injuries to the players. In his statement- “I think if I hear well, we’ve played with 20 or 21 different balls, something like that, in a year. It’s crazy. There are a lot of players that got injured because of that.” Raising his voice, Alcaraz demanded ATP to make a strict decision about not randomly changing balls- “they should change it. If not, every player’s going to be injured because of that.”
