The Jamaican Sprinter, Elaine specialises in sprinting events such as those of 100 and 200 meters. She is a proud owner of 5 Olympic medals in total. Another surprising aspect to be noted here is how Elaine is the second-fastest woman to have recorded such a timing at the Diamond League. The first being, Florence Griffith Joyner, who held the world record in both 100 and 200 meters. The Jamaican recorded a timing that was 0.5 seconds ahead of FloJo’s timing of 10.49 seconds. FloJo made the world record in 100 meters while she was competing at the Prefontaine Classic. Elaine, too, gave her personal best at the same tournament. However, she missed by breaking the record by a slight margin.
Sharing her feeling about the same, she said “I’m just 29! FloJo was like 29 when she broke that record as well. So, I was a young girl growing up and not knowing how it would be in that moment right now. So for me, coming over here to run is amazing. I ran like 4 PBS in one month is amazing. This tells me that I’m working hard.”
“The target is not really far. It takes time and patience. I’m taking it race by race and step by step every season, so after the championship I think I will not deliver that much, but I mean god is on my side and has my back so I am faithful and humble at the same time.”
